A tornado touched down in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, as storms moved across the region on Monday, the National Weather Service confirmed.
The EF1 tornado formed just west of Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, on May 27, 2024, at 7:38 p.m.
The tornado uprooted several trees along its path as it moved into Mahanoy City and crossed East Railroad Street, officials said. The tornado then crossed train tracks just north of Mahanoy City and crossed Glendon Road at 7:44 p.m. before lifting.

The tornado reached a peak wind of 90 mph with a path length of 1.5 miles and a path width of 75 yards. While several homes as well as the windows of an elementary school were damaged, no injuries were reported.
School was canceled in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, said David Truskowsky, spokesperson for the city’s fire department.
The tornado occurred after a cold front triggered strong to severe thunderstorms across the Pennsylvania region on Memorial Day. The storm system moved out late Monday night and gave way to clearer skies and improved conditions on Tuesday.
