A second round of wintry weather brought slippery spots and closures in the Pennsylvania suburbs and New Jersey.
The snow and ice threat caused hundreds of schools to open late or close Tuesday and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency and closed all state offices. Some counties in the region also closed courts and offices.

Snow that developed overnight was spotty but steadier wintry weather moved into many neighborhoods Tuesday morning. The intensity of the precipitation picked up by noon.
Light snow later changed over to rain in many neighborhoods across Delaware, South Jersey and Philadelphia. That changeover led to sleet and freezing rain in colder areas that continued to move north as the day went on. The ice line remained over the Pennsylvania suburbs through the early afternoon.
Slippery conditions on untreated surfaces led to dicey driving conditions. SEPTA trains were delayed and crews could be seen clearing snow and ice from the platform in Exton Tuesday morning.
The icing threat was more considerable in the Lehigh Valley, Berks County and central Jersey where snow changed to sleet and freezing rain that continued into the afternoon.

For the suburbs north of Philadelphia, much of the morning rush got snow, sleet and freezing rain.
By the end of the night all neighborhoods got heavy rain.
The Philadelphia School District as well as Philadelphia Archdiocesan High Schools and Parochial Elementary Schools were on a two-hour delay on Tuesday. At one point more than 600 schools were either closed or delayed. Click here for the full list of closures and dismissals.
County offices and courts closed in Bucks, Chester and Montgomery counties, as well, Tuesday.
Vehicle restrictions were imposed on certain roadways Tuesday.
Winds should pick up Wednesday and conditions clear with highs in the low 40s.
