A wildfire that ignited next to a large piece of art and came dangerously close to nearby homes in Burlington County earlier this week is now considered to be suspicious.

The circumstances leading to a fire that tore through 40 acres and neared homes in Hainesport, Burlington County, are suspicious, New Jersey State Police say.

The Big Rusty wildfire in Hainesport, Burlington County is mostly out after it went dangerously close to homes Monday night. No one was hurt and no homes were damaged. It is now 40 acres and 50% contained Tuesday afternoon. NBC10’s Karen Hua spoke with families who witnessed the fire crews battling this in their backyards.
