Authorities say flash floods in Spain turned village streets into rivers, ruined homes, disrupted transportation and killed at least 95 people.

Flash floods in southern and eastern Spain have killed at least 95 people in what authorities say is the country’s worst natural disaster in over 30 years.

The Environmental Voter Project says more than 130,000 first-time voters, who prioritize climate change, have already cast ballots. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has issued a statewide drought watch, strongly urging people to voluntarily conserve water as persistent dry and warmer-than-average conditions continue to stress the state’s water supplies. It has been 19 days since Philadelphia has seen measurable rainfall. The city could break a record for consecutive days without rain. In New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania drought levels are currently moderate but have the potential to become more severe as the days without rain add on. First Alert meteorologist James Gregorio has more on the drought watch.

“I want to caution that this is not a definitive count, because the task force is continuing its work,” Cooper said. “The number will continue to fluctuate as more reports come in and others are resolved.”

A week after Hurricane Helene overwhelmed the Southeastern U.S., homeowners hit the hardest are grappling with how they could possibly pay for the flood damage from one of the deadliest storms in recent history to hit the mainland.
