Philly street festivals bring weekend road closures. Your guide

Here are the fun events that are leading to road closures and detours in Philadelphia this weekend

Fall has arrived and with the pumpkin spice, falling leaves and cooling temps come plenty of festivals, runs, parades and other events that will leave roads in Philadelphia blocked.

(NOTE: A stretch of Interstate 76 eastbound connecting University City to South Philadelphia will be closed as well. Here's how to avoid it.)

Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024

History on the Street

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania is celebrating 200 years with its History on the Street block party.

"Cultural organizations will have activities, tours, and demonstrations that will share American history in exciting ways. Music, vendors, and food will bring a street party vibe," HSP says.

When? Noon to 4 p.m.

What roads will be closed? The 1300 block of Locust Street in Center City

Roxtoberfest

This German style beer and food festival features "food trucks, craft brews, live music, German-themed entertainment, fun competitions, activities for kids, and Spocktoberfest - a celebration of Spock, Kirk, and all things fandom featuring The Roddenberries," organizers said.

Among the Roxtoberfest fun you will find a scarecrow walk, cemetery tour, car show, cosplay contest and beer stein holding event.

When? Noon to 6 p.m.

What roads will be closed? Ridge Avenue between Lyceum and Leverington avenues.

St. Nicholas of Tolentine Authentic Italian Festival

The traditional South Philadelphia festival has its roots dating back more than a century. It starts with a procession through the neighborhood and ends with a block party featuring food, kid rides, face painting, music and much more, according to Wooder Ice.

When? Noon to 8 p.m.

What streets will be closed? 1700 block of South 9th Street
