Philly street festivals, parades, AIDS Walk bring weekend road closures. Your guide

Here are the fun events that are leading to road closures and detours in Philadelphia this weekend

Fall has arrived and with the pumpkin spice, falling leaves and cooling temps come plenty of festivals, runs, parades and other events that will leave roads in Philadelphia blocked.

(NOTE: A stretch of Interstate 76 eastbound connecting University City to South Philadelphia will be closed as well. Here's how to avoid it.)

Here's your guide to all the fun on Saturday and Sunday and how to avoid the road closures.

Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024

Evil Genius Beer Co. Fall Festival

"Enjoy craft beer, a food truck, games, a DJ, local vendors, and more," Fishtown-based Evil Genius Brewing Co. says. "This event is family and pet-friendly, and free to attend."

When? Noon to 6 p.m.

What roads will be closed? North Front Street from Cecil B. Moore Avenue to Palmer Street from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Celebrate Philadelphia Block Party

The first of two block parties taking place outside Philadelphia election satellite offices, The goal? "To increase participation in the 2024 General Election by encouraging voter registration, celebrating engagement in the civic landscape, and building community through entertainment," according to organizers.

When? 1 to 5 p.m. (roads closed 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.)

What roads will be closed? Market Street from 40th to North Preston streets

OURfest: National Coming Out Parade

The parade will feature floats, community organizations and performances, organizers say. "Participants will march from 5th and Market to Broad and Locust, showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community."

Assembly area: 4th and Market Streets

  • Starts at 5th and Market Streets
  • Westbound on Market Sreet towards City Hall
  • Right turn onto Juniper Street
  • Left turn onto JFK Boulevard
  • Right turn onto N. Broad Street
  • Disperses at N. Broad Street and Arch Street

When? 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. (road closures begin earlier)

What roads will be closed?

The following streets will be closed from noon until the parade steps off:

  • One lane of Market Sreet (W/B) from 4th Sreet to 5th Street

The following streets will be closed from 2 p.m. until the parade steps off:

  • 4th Street from Arch Street to Market Street

The following streets will be closed from 3:30 p.m. to the conclusion of the parade:

  • Market Sreet from 4th Street to City Hall
  • 4th Street from Arch Street to Chestnut Street
  • 5th Street from Arch Street to Chestnut Street
  • 6th Street from Arch Street to Chestnut Street
  • 7th Street from Arch Street to Chestnut Street
  • 8th Street from Arch Street to Chestnut Street
  • 9th Street from Arch Street to Chestnut Street
  • 10th Street from Arch Street to Chestnut Street
  • 11th Street from Arch Street to Chestnut Street
  • 12th Street from Vine Street to Chestnut Street

"Roads will be opened as they are serviced and cleaned," the city said. "All event-related road closures will be lifted no later than 8 p.m. on Saturday."

Navy Day Regatta

"The Navy Day Regatta is hosted by Saint Joseph’s University every October," organizers say of the race on the Schuylkill River off Kelly Drive. "Masters, Open, Collegiate, and Junior crews are all welcome to participate in the event."

When? Races go from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What streets will be closed? Kelly Drive between Strawberry Mansion and Fountain Green starting at 5:30 a.m.

AIDS Walk Philly

The signature event for AIDS Walk Philly helps support the organization's mission of supplying grants to "the most vulnerable of those living with HIV," according to organizers. The event features 5K walk along the Schuylkill River.

AIDS Fund Philadelphia executive director Robb Reichard talks to NBC10's Matt DeLucia about the work the group does for those living with HIV and AIDS and how this weekend's AIDS Walk helps raise money for the cause.

When? Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., walk/run begin at 8:30 a.m.

What streets will be closed? The course traditionally runs from the Philadelphia Museum of Art side of Eakins Oval up MLK Drive

Northern Liberties Fall Fest

The he Northern Liberties Business Improvement District and The Northern Liberties Neighbors Association are hosting a day full of family fun along 3rd Street and in Liberty Lands Park in Northern Liberties. The event features vendors, food, treats, live music, brews, a straw maze, tug-o-war and even a preview of Monster Mash: Northern Liberties Bloody Mary Challenge.

When? 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What streets will be closed? 3rd Street from Brown to Wildey streets.

Italian-American Heritage Parade, Festival

"This "Abbott Elementary" star Lisa Ann Walter will serve as the grand marshal for this annual South Philadelphia parade and festival celebrating Italian culture.

When? 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

What roads will be closed? Broad Street from Snyder to Bigler streets

OURfest: National Coming Out Festival/Resource Fair

"The Gayborhood will come alive with one of the largest outdoor festivals of the year," OURFest organizers say. "The event will include a resource fair, family-friendly programming, food trucks, beer gardens, and multiple performance stages featuring local artists, entertainers, and community speakers."

When? Noon to 7 p.m.

What roads will be closed?

The following streets will be closed starting at 5 a.m. until about 9 p.m.:

  • Juniper Street from Walnut Street to Pine Street
  • 13th Street from Walnut Street to Pine Street
  • S. Camac Street from Walnut Street to Pine Street
  • 12th Street from Walnut Street to Pine Street
  • Quince Street from Walnut Street to Pine Street
  • Chancellor Street from Juniper Street to 12th Street
  • Locust Street from Broad Street to 11th Street
  • Pine Street from Broad to 11th Street
  • Irving Street from Juniper Street to 13th Street
