The Phillies rough season now seems to include a flood.
Bright House Field, the Phillies Spring Training facility in Claerwater, Fla., was hammered by rains over the weekend resulting in flooding of the fields.
The culprit was Tropical Storm Debby that dropped inches of rain on Clearwater and much of Florida’s Gulf Coast especially the Pinellas coastline.
Phillies pitcher Justin De Fratus -- in Clearwater while rehabbing -- tweeted an Instagram photo of the main field where the Phillies play during spring training and the Single-A Clearwater Threshers play during the summer completely underwater. De Fratus also tweeted photos of some of the surrounding fields used by rehabbing Phillies and the Gulf Coast Phillies club underwater as well.
The Phillies even had to push back the start time of Chase Utley’s last rehab assignment with the Threshers Saturday night and had to play the game through steady rainfall.
The Phillies released a statement to NBC10 Monday about the flooding at the team’s facilities:

“The Phillies have shut down operations at our Clearwater facility today. When the City of Clearwater authorities give us permission to access the property, we will know better the extent of the damages inside Bright House Field. We do have confirmation that there is no flood damage inside Carpenter Complex, but there is significant flooding in and around the fields at Carpenter Complex and Bright House Field.”
In the meantime the Threshers are scheduled to play Monday night in Palm Beach while most games in the Gulf Coast League are postponed.
