That's gotta be a first … right?

NEW ORLEANS — Opening Night for the Super Bowl is just as chaotic as you'd think. Actually, take the assumption and triple it.

The Eagles were the first media availability at Caesars Superdome Monday night and it was jam packed.

Seriously, it's the closest one might ever feel to being a sardine. It's crowded and crazy and you come across many firsts throughout the event.

That also had to be the case for Jalen Hurts, who had a ... cookie thrown up at him during his availability.

Saquon Barkley gives message to New York Giants fans

Saquon Barkley, days before his first Super Bowl appearance, had a message for New York Giants fans.

“It’s nothing but love," he said Monday when asked what he'd say to the fans of his former team. "I’ll be naive to think they weren’t supportive to me over the last six years. ... All the things that happened over there and the love I have for them is the reason I’m able to have the success I’m having now.”

Barkley, who the Giants selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 draft, spent six seasons with the Giants before signing with the Eagles as a free agent.

Eagles owner Jeff Lurie finally addresses report he's in mix to buy Celtics

Jeffrey Lurie spoke with reporters at Super Bowl Opening Night on Monday and was asked by Reuben Frank about the recent report that the Eagles owner was interested in buying the Boston Celtics.

NEW ORLEANS – Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeff Lurie said Monday he’s not interested in buying the Boston Celtics and is solely focused on continuing to guide the Eagles.

Speaking to the media for the first time since the NFL owners meetings in March, Lurie shot down a report by Bill Simmons of the Ringer, who said on his podcast and repeated on social media that Lurie was “in the running” to buy the Celtics, who were put up for sale in July by the Grousbeck family.

It wasn’t that outrageous to assume it was true, since Lurie grew up in Boston, is a lifelong Celtics fan and has the wealth to bid for a team expected to cost $5 to $6 billion.

But speaking at Super Bowl Opening Night at the Superdome Monday, Lurie denied that the Celtics are on his radar.

Lurie on Celtics rumors: ‘I am not really interested'

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was asked directly by NBC Sports Philadelphia's Reuben Frank about the recent rumors that he is interested in buying the NBA's Boston Celtics. Here's what Lurie said:

"No, I am not really interested in acquiring another sports team. I think it's connected because they were my childhood team. I've got a tremendous amount of respect for their whole culture. I sort of see it as a kindred soul in the NBA. Wyc has been an outstanding owner. I love the way they've developed that team. We've gotten to celebrate so many banners over the years.

"It's not something that's top of mind. My focus is on my love of the Eagles and to win another Super Bowl for Philadelphia. I'm obsessed as you know and that's where it all comes from."

NFL head coaches with most Super Bowl appearances, wins: Where Andy Reid ranks
Former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman explains why the Eagles will need to play a “perfect game” to beat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Big Red is back in the Big Game.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has led the two-time defending champions to a historic third straight Super Bowl appearance. Of the nine back-to-back Super Bowl champs in NFL history, Kansas City is the first to reach the Super Bowl.

Now, the Chiefs will try to complete the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat when they take on Reid's old team, the Philadelphia Eagles, in Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans.

Reid, 66, owns the most wins by an Eagles coach in franchise history, and he's already defeated Philadelphia once in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs' current championship streak began with a Super Bowl 57 victory over the Eagles two seasons ago.

Importance of DeVonta Smith's Super Bowl homecoming: ‘Giving them a dream to chase'

John Clark reports from New Orleans after sitting down with Eagles WR DeVonta Smith to discuss his feelings on competing for a Super Bowl in his home state of Louisiana with some history on the line.

NEW ORLEANS — Any time a team is on the cusp of playing in the Super Bowl, it's special.

Players chase the opportunity to bring a championship back to their city.

DeVonta Smith, making his second Super Bowl appearance in four seasons in the NFL, has the goal to do so just 45 minutes from where he grew up in Louisiana.

Eagles notebook: Ready to be more focused at this Super Bowl
Jalen Hurts spoke to the media on Friday afternoon and was asked about his biggest takeaways from the Eagles’ trip to Super Bowl LVII two years ago.

NEW ORLEANS — A.J. Brown is more prepared this time around.

After the NFC Championship Game, Brown said during his first Super Bowl experience in 2023, he felt more like a paid actor with all the added media demands on players in the week leading up to the big game.

Last week, Brown expounded on what he meant by that.

“It’s about us, but it’s not about us in that way,” Brown said. “We have so much we have to do for everyone else. The media, the fans and there’s only so little time that we get to focus on what’s important and that’s the game. We have to do a really good job of staying locked in and staying focused.

In Roob's Daily Eagles Observations: An area the Eagles have shown remarkable improvement

In Roob's Daily Eagles Observations: An area the Eagles have shown remarkable improvement

Dave Zangaro and Reuben Frank answer a question from a viewer: After just one season, can Saquon Barkley already be considered one of the best players in franchise history?

NEW ORLEANS - An area where the Eagles have shown remarkable improvement, a rookie whose contributions have been a huge surprise, an emotional moment from an unemotional player and an impossible Eagles trivia question.

It’s Monday. The Super Bowl is six days away. And Roob’s 10 Daily Random Eagles Observations starts now!

See you in 24 hours!

1. One huge area of concern the Eagles seem to have solved is their issue with scoring in the first quarter. Remember how bad it was? The Eagles didn’t score a 1st-quarter point in their first seven games and had just 17 in their first 13 games. That’s an average of 1.3 per game. Then, starting with the Steelers, they scored 82 1st-quarter points in their last seven games, or 11.7 per game. Similarly, they were outscored 59-17 in the first quarter through the Panthers and have outscored their opponents 82-27 since, critically 37-10 in the first quarter of their three playoff wins. They started the season as only the ninth team since 1995 to score 17 or fewer points in their first 13 games. The other eight went a combined 71-137 and won one playoff game. Now they’re actually the first team since the 1988 Broncos to lead three straight games in the same postseason by at least six points after the first quarter. Just another area that improved dramatically as the year went on.

How an unusually early bye week helped turn the Eagles season around

How an unusually early bye week helped turn the Eagles season around
Jalen Hurts spoke to the media on Friday afternoon and was asked about his biggest takeaways from the Eagles’ trip to Super Bowl LVII two years ago.

NEW ORLEANS — When the NFL schedule was released in mid-May, the Eagles weren’t thrilled about having a Week 5 bye.

That’s as early as they get.

“You see it's a Week 5 bye, it's ughh Week 5 bye,” general manager Howie Roseman said on Saturday, the day before the team left for the Super Bowl in New Orleans. “We're gonna have such a long run after that. It’s terrible. It’s not even cold in Philly if you wanted to go away.”

It turns out the timing of that bye week was actually perfect.

As Super Bowl week begins, Roseman reflects on his home run signings
Jalen Hurts spoke to the media on Friday afternoon and was asked about his biggest takeaways from the Eagles’ trip to Super Bowl LVII two years ago.

NEW ORLEANS — In this Super Bowl season, the Eagles had two players named to the All-Pro first team.

Howie Roseman signed them both on the same day in March.

Of course, when the Eagles signed Saquon Barkley and Zack Baun on March 13, expectations for the two were a little different. Barkley was getting top-of-the-market running back money and Baun was more of an afterthought. But those two moves helped shape the Eagles’ incredible 2024 season.

They wouldn’t be in New Orleans without them.

‘I'm a little bit obsessed:' Why Howie Roseman is the perfect GM for the Eagles

Dave Zangaro and Reuben Frank answer a question from a viewer: After just one season, can Saquon Barkley already be considered one of the best players in franchise history?

This was Thursday evening for Howie Roseman. But really, it’s every day for Howie Roseman.

Figuring out ways to make the Eagles better is literally a 24-hour-a-day, 365-days-a-year job for Roseman, the Eagles’ general manager since 2010 … minus 2015.

“I'm a little bit obsessed with it,” Roseman said in an interview Saturday. “On Thursday night, it was 9:30, I went to my son's basketball game, I came home and I was watching the tape of the Senior Bowl and the East-West game.

“And my wife walked into my office and she's like, ‘What's going on right now?’ And it's like, ‘Hey, we gotta make sure that our offseason next year is good. … So that for me is the most important part (of the job). To be able to look in the mirror, wake up every morning and know I'm giving everything I got to this team, this organization and our fans.”
