NHL adds another (albeit small) wrinkle to the 2020-21 realigned divisions originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
For safety and monetary purposes, the NHL decided realigned divisions were the best way to conduct the 2020-21 season, which has become the season of adjustments.
Another pivot the league has made with the divisions: adding sponsorships to the names.

The NHL announced those sponsorships Tuesday. Here are the names of the four divisions in 2020-21:
- Scotia NHL® North Division
- Honda NHL® West Division
- Discover NHL® Central Division
- MassMutual NHL® East Division
The Flyers are in the East Division with the Bruins, Sabres, Devils, Islanders, Rangers, Penguins and Capitals.
There could be mass chaos in the Flyers' division. Get it? Sorry.
Anyway, the decision to add corporate sponsors makes sense for the NHL. These are pandemic-stricken times in which the league is losing revenue, so trying to make up some of it in different avenues is smart business. The NHL is permitting teams to advertise on their helmets this season, another way to help alleviate the revenue losses.
