Herb Magee, Hall of Fame College Basketball Coach, to Retire After 2021-22 Season

Hall of Fame coach Herb Magee to retire after season originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

Legendary college basketball coach Herb Magee will retire after this season, he told The Inquirer's Mike Jensen.

Magee, a 2011 inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame, has gone 1,123-444 as the head coach at the school now known as Jefferson University (formerly Philadelphia Textile and Philadelphia University).

Only Duke's Mike Krzyzewski has more wins as a college basketball coach than Magee, with 1,170.

Associate head coach Jimmy Reilly has been approved to succeed Magee, The Associated Press reported in June.

In addition to his immense success as a head coach, Magee is renowned for his work as a shooting guru, tweaking the jumpers of NBA players. He's widely known as "The Shot Doctor."
