Alec Bohm uses “torpedo” bat in home opener

Alec Bohm is the first Phillie to use the new “torpedo” bat that is taking MLB by storm. The guys in the booth share their thought on the new technology.

The old saying goes, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” One Phillies hitter is employing those words of wisdom, with the possibility of more to come.

The hottest new thing in baseball in the opening few days of the 2025 season is “torpedo” bats, which move the barrel of the bat slightly closer to the bat handle to help the batter.

A quintet of Yankees hitters – Anthony Volpe, Jazz Chisholm, Paul Goldschmidt, Austin Wells, and Cody Bellinger – used torpedo bats for Saturday’s and yesterday’s games against the Brewers. The early returns were… strong. All five players hit at least one home run over those two games, as the Yankees posted 32 runs and 27 hits in a pair of wins.

The Yankees' offensive explosion so inspired third baseman Alec Bohm that he got his hands on a torpedo bat from Victus in advance of today's home opener. He had a line-drive single to left field using the bat in the fourth inning.

A pair of Super Bowl champs throw out first pitch for Phillies home opener

A pair of Super Bowl champs throw out first pitch for Phillies home opener

We were down in Clearwater, Florida to ask fans which Phillie has the best walk-up music?

If there's one way to get a crowd that's already excited to celebrate baseball returning even more excited ... you bring out two Eagles Super Bowl champions to throw the first pitch of the season.

As home opener festivities started to come to a close, Eagles chief security officer, Big Dom appeared on the field at Citizens Bank Park, which always means Birds are around.

A familiar face popped up on fan vision overlooking left field — newly-retired Eagles' legend Brandon Graham. Moments later, the two-time Super Bowl champion made his way on the diamond with the Lombardi Trophy.

As a thunderous Eagles fight song was wrapping up, Phillies PA announcer, Dan Baker, announced the entrance of Saquon Barkley.

Harper's home opener cleats are perfect love letter to Phanatic

Harper's home opener cleats are perfect love letter to Phanatic

We were down in Clearwater, Florida to ask fans which Phillie has the best walk-up music?

It's not the first game of the season at Citizens Bank Park unless Bryce Harper shows his love for the Phanatic with his gear.

Under Armour custom-designed a pair of "Phantastic" cleats for Harper, who will be rocking them when the Phillies take the field for the home opener against the Rockies.

The color of the cleats draws inspiration from the beloved mascot, incorporating a ton of (literal) bells and whistles all throughout. Philly-themed charms including the city skyline, a boxing glove, Liberty Bell, helmet and phrases like "We don't care" and "Jawn" are scattered throughout the laces.

These cleats will be available for purchase for Under Armour rewards members starting April 8 and open to the public April 11.

Turner takes grounders, could be back Wednesday

Turner takes grounders, could be back Wednesday

Meteorologist Bill Henley is tracking some wet weather and a severe storm threat Monday afternoon and evening. Might the weather impact the Phillies’ home opener?

The Phillies played it safe with Trea Turner on Monday, resting him again in the home opener after his back locked up fielding a ground ball Saturday at Nationals Park.

With the built-in off-day on Tuesday, Turner will have three full games off since suffering the injury. He took infield practice early Monday afternoon and it sounds like he'll be back in the lineup Wednesday.

Turner thinks mild hip tightness felt late in spring training led to his back spasm over the weekend. Asked if Turner could be available off the bench Monday, manager Rob Thomson said "he's gonna hit in the cages and throw, we'll see as the game progresses. He's feeling better."

Turner did, in fact, pinch-hit for Brandon Marsh and walk with two outs, a man on second base and the Phillies down a run in the seventh inning Monday.
