A Shot at the Big Leagues for a Philly-Area Pitcher

Jeff Singer refused to relinquish his dream of playing in the majors for his hometown Phillies. He starred at Rutgers-Camden nearly a decade ago, but went undrafted. Undeterred, he pitched in local South Jersey leagues and independent leagues until he earned a tryout with the Phillies. He threw 95 miles an hour. The Phils signed the hometown lefty. But he still spent years in the Phillies minor league system until tonight. The 28-year-old pitcher will see his dream come true tonight as a big leaguer with the Phillies.
