Philadelphia Police Officers Sue LeSean McCoy Over Off-Duty Brawl at Philly Club

Two Philadelphia police officers are suing former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy over an Old City nightclub brawl that left them both injured when they were off-duty.

The civil suit says McCoy, who now plays for the Buffalo Bills, beat and kicked one officer while he was on the ground and punched another officer in the eye. The suit was filed Tuesday in Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.

The suit also names Curtis Brinkley, Tamarcus Porter and Christopher Henderson as defendants along with McCoy. Brinkley is a former NFL running back, and Porter once played football for the University of Pittsburgh, where McCoy also played. Recess Lounge in Old City, where the fight occurred, is also named as a defendant in the suit.

The suit seeks monetary damages against both McCoy and his cohorts and Recess Lounge, alleging that the men were drunk when they beat up the off-duty officers.

The suit alleges that McCoy, Brinkley, Porter and Henderson were "already visibly intoxicated," but that employees at Recess continued to serve them in the time leading up to the brawl.

"Further, security guards and other employees of Recess Lounge were negligent in not preventing the assault perpetrated by the above defendants and/or stopping the assault before the plaintiffs were injured in the serious manner in which they were injured," the suit reads in part.

District Attorney Seth Williams announced in April that no charges would be filed in connection with the Feb. 7 fight in Old City, saying he couldn't prove who started it.

McCoy's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined comment. McCoy's attorney has said he was only trying to break up a fight between the officers and his friends over a $350 bottle of Champagne.

Police have said the fight broke out over a misunderstanding about who had bought the bottle.
