New Jersey Paramedic Dies Hours After Trying to Save Life

Colleagues are mourning a New Jersey paramedic who died hours after trying to save a life.

The Hillsborough Rescue Squad says James Maguire responded to a call on Sunday and performed CPR for an extended period of time. He died less than 20 hours later on Monday of an apparent heart attack.

Maguire joined the rescue squad in 1979 following service in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He worked as a police officer with the Hillsborough Township Police Department from 1984 until he retired in 2008. After that, he worked as a paramedic at Hunterdon Medical Center.

His funeral is scheduled to take place Monday.
