Foreign Leaders See U.S. “In Decline,” Romney Told

Mitt Romney said he was was warned by Australia's foreign minister Sunday that foreign leaders see "America in decline," NBC News reported. Romney met with Foreign Minister Bob Carr in San Francisco shortly before a Republican fundraiser. Carr had been in the U.S. for four days for talks with former secretaries of state Henry Kissinger and Condoleezza Rice. The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Romney as saying "And this idea of America in decline, it was interesting [Carr] said that ... if they're thinking about investing in America, entrepreneurs putting their future in America -- if they think America's in decline they're not gonna do it." According to Romney, Carr suggested that America could improve that international perception "with one budget deal" that helps balance the budget. Romney is scheduled to meet with leaders in England, Israel and Poland later this week as he launches his first trip abroad as the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
