Stephen Colbert isn’t taking Mitt Romney’s presidential defeat lightly, and on Thursday’s episode, the political satirist sat down with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow to discuss what went down on election night, and who was to blame for Romney’s loss.
“He can still pull this one off, there’s another path to 270 for Mitt,” a defiant Colbert told Maddow. “He just needs to get Switzerland, the Cayman Islands and the secret state only Republicans can see: Whitesylvannia.”
Colbert told Maddow that the political commentators over at Fox News “seemed more freaked out than you guys seemed elated” by the election results.
Maddow explained that Fox News’ reaction could be attributed to the fact they “talked themselves into the idea” of a Romney landslide based on instinct and the gatherings of “enthusiastic crowds.”
“Turned out to be a bad way to predict the election,” she said.
Colbert, however, was still unwilling to accept the election results, blaming Romney’s loss on a slew of external factors, such as the weather.
“It was hurricane Sandy, it was Sandy that did it,” Colbert mocked. “People worried about the nor’easter that came the day after the elections.”

But the late night host didn’t stop there. Taking a dig at his guest, Colbert went on to claim that gay people were responsible for hurricanes.
Maddow was the first openly gay television personality to host a primetime news program.
Shooting back, Maddow jokingly asked whether gay people have the ability to lower barometric pressure.
“Yes,” Colbert replied. “Yes they do.”
