Police are looking for three men who kicked a homeless man in the head as he slept on the steps of a Bronx church.
The 41-year-old man is in critical condition with head and brain injuries after the attack on the steps of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine Church.
The NYPD says he was sleeping there at around 11:15 p.m. Thursday when he was approached by the suspects.
The Rev. Joseph Girone said a maintenance worker found blood on the steps the morning after the attack. He checked the church's surveillance video and saw the violent assault.
"It was awful, and then being in front of the church where this man was seeking some refuge and hopefully a place of peace -- these guys are doing violence," said Girone.
The suspects fled the area after attacking him. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
