An elderly German man was reportedly so moved by the beauty of his surroundings that he went for a walk without remembering he’d locked his granddaughter in the trunk of his car.
After passers-by heard shouting and banging coming from inside the car’s trunk, police and fire officials found a 9-year-old girl inside the cramped space, The Local reported.
The girl’s 72-year-old grandfather later told police his grandchild had asked to ride in the trunk during a trip to Sorpe Lake in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, according to the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper.
He reportedly said it was the first time he’d allowed her into the trunk and after a promise never to do it again police let the man off with a warning.
All in all a better outcome for the grandfather than for a mom busted in St. Croix for allegedly driving with her daughter zipped up in her purse.
