Ohio “Craigslist Killer” Sentenced to Death

The Ohio man convicted of killing three men he lured with fake Craigslist job ads was sentenced to death Thursday by an Akron judge. Street preacher Richard Beasley had been convicted last month of kidnapping and killing Ralph Geiger, 56, of Akron as well as Timothy Kern, 47, of Massillon and David Pauley, 51, of Norfolk, Va. and of injuring 49-year-old Scott Davis, who testified at the trial. Beasley was accused of having teamed up with a teenager in 2011 and using the promise of jobs as farmhands to lure his victims, all of whom were destitute. The prosecution on Thursday called the death penalty "the most appropriate sentence," the Akron Beacon Journal reported. "Beasley has shown no remorse and would likely still be preying on men who were seeking a better life," a prosecutor said. Beasley's co-defendent Brogan Rafferty was 16 years old at the time of the murders and too young for the death penalty. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
