Passengers on an Amtrak train bound for New York had a bumpy ride Sunday when a mysterious object struck the train, leaving a hole in at least one window.
STORY UPDATE: It Wasn't a Bullet
Amtrak was investigating after something struck Acela Express train 2222 as it passed through the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia shortly before 7 p.m., according to spokeswoman Kimberly Woods.
The incident occurred near where an Amtrak train derailed in May, killing eight people and injuring more than 200. It came the night before officials planned to release new findings into the deadly derailment.
Investigators didn’t know what caused a hole in the window of Acela Express 2222. Passengers kept calm and even shared a smile or two as police investigated, according to passenger Taylor Lorenz, who snapped a photo of a crack in the train glass that looked like a "bullet hole." [[367184401, C]]
There were 201 passengers on board at the time. The train stopped at Metropark in New Jersey so inspectors could check the damage.
No one reported any injuries and the train, which originated in Washington, D.C. went on the New York, arrived just after 8 a.m., Woods said.
