Wawa Goes South – Way South

Iconic Philly convenience chain to open stores in Florida

Wawa with palm trees?

It’s about to become reality.

One of the most iconic food -- and gas -- spots in the Philadelphia region is expanding further south than ever before as Wawa Florida locations open starting with a store right across from Sea World opening July 18.

That's right, snagging a hoagie along with a tank of gas becomes reality next week in the Sunshine State.

“We can’t wait to open our doors to our new Florida family, and are excitedly to quickly enter the Greater Orlando area and begin offering our new customers our unique brand of appetizing convenience,” said Wawa CEO Howard Stoeckel. “As each location opens, we will further solidify our commitment to filling a void in our new Florida customer’s lives, providing them with a level of convenience and appetite appeal our customers have come to rely on us for.”

Over the next month Wawa will open five more Central Florida locations. They also recently broke ground on a store in a Pinellas Park near Tampa and plan to expand to more Tampa area stores.

By 2017 Wawa plans on opening around 100 stores in the Orlando and Tampa areas. Who knows, maybe someday Phillies fan attending a game in Clearwater will be able to go just down the street to get a Shorti before the game.

The soon-to-be former most southern Wawa is located in Virginia, which is the only other state where you can buy beer at Wawa.
