Vineland City Hall Vandal Applied for Police Job: Police

Officials say a man responsible for vandalizing Vineland City Hall was apprehended shortly after applying for a job with the Vineland Police Department.

The man, who police have not identified, walked into city hall around 1 p.m. Tuesday and asked to see Mayor Ruben Bermudez. He was told that Burmudez, who was out to lunch at the time, was unavailable.

The Vineland Daily Journal reports a surveillance video shows the man begin to kick and destroy items in the lobby on his way out.

City spokesman Michael Tofanelli says the man was arrested Wednesday after filling out a job application at the police department. The hopeful officer's candidate was charged with criminal mischief.

Tofanelli says he doesn't know what caused the man to damage property in city hall.
