Verdict For Man Who Sets Dead Friend's Apartment on Fire

A northeastern Pennsylvania man will spend one to two years in prison for setting fire to his friend's home after finding the owner dead of an apparent suicide.

Twenty-four-year-old Kyle Shaw was sentenced Tuesday by a judge in Luzerne County where Shaw pleaded guilty to arson in February.

The county coroner has yet to release a final determination in the death of Jack Sipple, though investigators believe the 31-year-old man shot himself.

Shaw's attorney says he used drugs and alcohol because of his bipolar disorder and set fire to Sipple's bed after finding his close friend dead on August 7. Public defender Melissa Sulima says Shaw wasn't thinking straight and was distraught over finding Sipple dead, who Shaw "considered his brother."
