Crews Battle Underground Fire in Point Breeze

An underground electrical fire knocked out power for several residents in Philadelphia’s Point Breeze section Saturday morning.

The transformer fire occurred on the 1400 block of Point Breeze Avenue around 6 a.m., knocking out the power for at least nine customers.

Responding firefighters contacted Philadelphia Gas Works due to an elevated gas reading at one of the homes. PGW workers shut off gas at the home.

Firefighters were able to place the fire under control. Service was restored to the homes Saturday night.

No one was injured during the incident. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
