Three-Alarm Fire Burns at North Philly Businesses

NBC10’s Katy Zachry reports on the large fire response to a blaze that tore through a row of stores along Germantown Avenue in North Philadelphia Monday morning.

Fire tore through a row of North Philadelphia businesses Monday morning.

The fire at Germantown and Lehigh avenues started around 6:20 a.m. and went to three alarms as more than 120 firefighters battled the flames for hours.

A boarded up shoe store and two neighboring businesses appeared to be impacted. Firefighters had to break metal gates to get inside to battle the flames. They were eventually forced out by the fire.

Thick smoke could be seen coming from the roof as firefighters battled the blaze.

It took more than four hours for firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

No one was hurt.

Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel praised his firefighters for putting themselves "at incredible risk" to save businesses during a "challenging firefight."
