Young Man Dies After Being Shot in Head on West Philly Street

A young man died after being shot twice in the head on a West Philadelphia street Thursday afternoon in the latest incident of deadly gun violence in the city.

Police were called to North Allison Street near Master Street around 12:15. Responding officers found a young person, originally believed to be between 15 to 17 years old, with two gunshot wounds to his head.

Officers rushed the gunshot victim, later identified as 20-year-old Quaheim Aikens, to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced the Milbourne, Pennsylvania, resident dead a short time later.

Police gave no information about a possible suspect or motive. They seemed focused on a bicycle stopped on the sidewalk while investigating the scene.

Neighbors, who didn’t want to speak on camera, said they didn’t hear the shooting due to having their air conditioners on.

This is the latest killing as Philly deals with an increase of homicides this year. As of the end of Thursday. homicides this year are at 154, up from 142 last year and the most on June 20 since 2012.
