A wild crash left one dead and four emergency responders hurt.
Authorities say a taxi driver was killed and four firefighters were hurt when the cab crashed into a fire police van in northeastern Pennsylvania.
The crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. Sunday in Coolbaugh Township. The Monroe County coroner says the taxi driver, 55-year-old Stroudsburg resident Michael West, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say West lost control of the taxi and slid into the path of the oncoming Coolbaugh Township fire police van. Four volunteer firefighters were taken to hospitals and officials say two were still in intensive care Sunday evening.
There were no passengers in the taxi at the time of the crash.
It’s unclear if damp roadways played any role in the crash.
