Police are searching for a suspect or suspects who stole a religious statue from a convent in Trenton.
Members of the Divine Mercy convent noticed their 4-foot concrete statue of Christ as the Sacred Heart was missing after Mass on Monday morning. Sister Karen Crawford told the Trentonian the statue was pulled off bolts and carted off sometime overnight.
The statue was given to the convent in 1997 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Trenton’s St. Stanislaus Church, according to the Trentonian.
Crawford told the Trentonian the statue itself is not made of valuable material. The Trentonian also reports Trenton Councilman George Muschal announced a $250 reward for anyone who brings the statue back unharmed.
