Authorities say a police standoff in suburban Philadelphia ended with the death of the suspect.
The standoff began Tuesday afternoon in Wallingford, Delaware County, after officers were called for the report of a suicidal man.
Nether Providence Elementary School is about a block and a half away from the scene It was placed on lockdown around 2 p.m.
Chief David Splain said the lockdown was a precaution because it was close to dismissal time and there was a concern about children walking near the scene.
Police said the standoff ended just before 4 p.m. when the suspect turned his weapon on himself.
No police officers or residents were injured.
