Fleeing Driver Strikes and Kills Woman in South Philadelphia: Police

Investigators say the driver of a white SUV was fleeing the scene of an accident on 23rd and Jackson streets shortly before 4:30 p.m.

A fleeing driver struck and killed a woman in South Philadelphia, according to police.

Investigators say the 38-year-old driver of a white Ford Wind Star was fleeing the scene of an accident on 23rd and Jackson streets shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday. He slammed into multiple cars and hit at least two pedestrians.

A 46-year-old woman died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Wind Star was taken to the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and is being evaluated.

Several other people were also taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, police said.

A law enforcement source told NBC10 the driver was on medication and may have blacked out prior to the crash.
