A neurologist was led out of his Atlantic County, New Jersey office in handcuffs Tuesday afternoon for allegedly inappropriately touching several patients during examinations.
Dr. Syed Arif Jaffery was arrested at Premier Neurology, the practice he shares with his wife, along the 3000 block of English Creek Avenue in Egg Harbor Township following a three month police investigation, police said. He has been charged with three counts of criminal sexual contact and is being held on $25,000 bail.
Police said three patients came forward lodging complaints against the physician over the past year.
“It’s still an active investigation. We just had enough to have warrants issued for his arrest at this time,” Detective Sergeant Fred Spano said.
Jaffery told NBC10’s Ted Greenberg the allegations were not true as he was led past patients in handcuffs.

“I don’t know. I have to find out,” the man said as he was questioned about the charges.
The physician’s wife, Kaniz Kahn-Jaffery, defended her husband saying he is a good doctor. “It’s not true,” she said.
Surprised patients at the office when the arrest took place said they never had a problem with Jaffery.
“I’ve had my body stripped and covered, needles poked in me. He’s never done nothing to me,” patient Lynn Lacy said.
“I’m shocked. Very shocked and appalled,” said another patient, Regina Karge.
Jaffery has been licensed to practice medicine in New Jersey since 2004 and he has not had any prior disciplinary actions levied against him, according to state records.
