What to Know

  • Authorities say a shooting in a parking lot outside a stadium where young people had gathered left eight people injured, one critically. Some victims appeared to have been injured fleeing the gunfire.
  • Chester police said the gunfire occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the lot outside Subaru Park, where the Philadelphia Union play.
  • Witnesses said about 100 young people had gathered in the lot to celebrate the approaching end of the school year and the holiday. Officials are asking anyone who may have attended to share any information or video they may have from the event.

An investigation is currently underway after a shooting occurred outside Subaru Park Sunday night.

According to police, there were eight people in total injured in a shooting. All victims were transported to the hospital and have since been released, except a 17-year-old boy who is in critical condition, according to Commissioner Steven Gretsky.

At 11:21 p.m. Chester police were called to Front and Norris Street for a gunshot victim. When police arrived they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand. She was transported to the hospital, police said during a press conference on Monday.

It was after this that police learned that there was a total of eight victims shot--the other victims had been transported to the hospital by private vehicles, according to the police.

All victims were between 17 and 18-years-old and suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, except the one in critical condition, police said.

On Tuesday, in a statement, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said that at least three guns were fired during the incident and more than 50 shell casings were found at the scene.

The stadium is where the Philadelphia Union soccer team play their home games.

There was a match at the stadium on Sunday night -- the Philadelphia Union 2 took on the Columbus Crew 2.

Officials have said the shooting happened in a parking lot outside of the stadium at some point after that match. But, the mayor's office said the incident had nothing to do with the soccer game.

Police said there was a crowd of dozens gathered there for a Memorial Day gathering they think, but they were unaware there was going to be a gathering there.

On Monday morning, NBC10's Randy Gyllenhaal found blood stains and medical gloves scattered throughout the scene.

Investigators are unaware at this time what led to the shooting and there have been no arrests.
