Scranton Officer Critically Injured Responding to Robbery: Police

Authorities in northeastern Pennsylvania say a Scranton police officer was critically injured while helping to apprehend a suspect after an early morning robbery.

The Scranton Times-Tribune reports that the officer and others were called to investigate an attempted armed robbery at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday in West Scranton.

Police chief Carl Graziano told the paper that three juveniles were taken into custody after a brief chase, but one officer was critically injured while trying to apprehend one of the youths at the rear of a building. There was no immediate word on how the officer was injured or the extent of the injuries.

State and city police are investigating. Graziano said the juveniles are being questioned.
