The first of several winter storms took aim at the Philadelphia region on Wednesday night and it caused closures and delays on Thursday.
A First Alert for snow, sleet and freezing rain leading to hazardous travel and school delays was in effect from 9 p.m. on Feb. 5, 2025, to 1 p.m. on Feb. 6, 2025.
The First Alert covered Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania suburbs, Berks County, the Lehigh Valley, northern Delaware and South Jersey, with the exception of coastal points.
In an early move, the Archdiocese high and elementary schools in Philadelphia took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday to announce that students would be learn through a flexible instruction day on Thursday.

Philadelphia City Council
Council delayed its regularly scheduled session for Thursday due to inclement weather.
Philadelphia International Airport
As of about 5 p.m., officials with the Philadelphia International Airport have said that, due to inclement weather, they had:
- 151delays within, into, or out of the United States
- 116 total cancellations
Airport officials have posted information online to allow travelers the most up to date information.

Delaware
State of Delaware offices in New Castle County opened late at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
State of Delaware offices in Kent and Sussex Counties operated on their regular schedule.
Road Conditions
There were some speed reductions in place as the freezing rain on Thursday morning. NBC10's Sheila Watko and Katy Zachry had a look at the conditions for the commute.
Also, officials in Upper Providence Township in Montgomery County were warning drivers of "extremely icy and dangerous" roadways on Thursday morning.
