Several families are displaced after a massive fire ripped through six homes in Montgomery County on Wednesday, officials said.

The three-alarm fire engulfed a number of rowhomes on the 200 block of 2nd Avenue in Royersford Borough shortly before 6 p.m., officials said.

"I just looked to the neighbor's house and it's just smoke, fire, flames. Just tons of smoke," Lola Rivera, a neighbor who witnessed the fire, told NBC10. "Everyone's coming outside their houses. We're all trying to like, situate what to do."

Officials said a police officer spotted the flames as he was driving by and started knocking on doors to alert people and get them out safely as the fire spread.

Officials with the Borough of Royersford urged the public to avoid the area as fire crews fought to get the fire under control. Off-duty personnel with the Department of Emergency Services were called to assist, officials said.

Roads around the impacted area were closed.

After firefighters brought the flames under control, six homes were destroyed.

After the fire, there were 40 homes without power. Power was restored to some of those homes by Thursday morning, however.
