The upcoming Museum of the American Revolution in Old City isn't set to open until next year, but it will be opening an addition that will add to Philadelphia's outdoor scene.
The highly anticipated Museum of the American Revolution at the corner of 3rd and Chestnut streets won't open until April 19 next year to coincide with the 242nd anniversary of the "shot heard 'round the world."
To assuage the anticipation, the museum on Sept. 15 will officially open its outdoor plaza, which will be accessible before, during and after the museum's operating hours.
"The plaza will extend the museum experience outside of our doors, with a dramatic display of cannons, powerful words from the Declaration of Independence engraved on the wall, and two large-scale bronze sculptural panels depicting iconic paintings from the revolution that will be installed later this fall, as well as outdoor programming when the museum opens in April," museum COO ZeeAnn Mason said.
"We hope this plaza will activate this corner like never before and be a lively new addition to the landscape of historic Philadelphia," Mason added.
