Comcast’s efforts to bring high-speed internet to low-income families throughout the country have a new champion — six-time U.S. Olympic medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
The Philadelphia-based cable giant announced Tuesday Joyner-Kersee will step into the role of spokeswoman for its Internet Essentials program, a large-scale initiative aimed at providing low-cost internet access and increasing digital literacy.
David L. Cohen, Comcast’s senior executive vice president, highlighted the track-and-field Olympic gold medalist’s philanthropic work after her retirement as a key tie-in to her new connection with Internet Essentials.
