No Charges at This Time After Little Girl Is Left and Mother Is Found

The young girl is safe and is now with family members, police said.

NBC10 has an update on a story we’ve been following throughout the weekend. A mother left her baby with a stranger and was questioned by police. She has not been charged but the investigation continues.

Philadelphia police have found a mother who they say left her baby girl with someone else and did not return for hours.

The 35-year-old woman left her about 18-month-old daughter with someone she didn't know in the McPherson Square area of the Kensington neighborhood around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Philadelphia Police Department Capt. Sekou Kinebrew said.

The woman asked the person to briefly watch the girl, but when she did not return searched for the mother in the nearby park, police said. After a few hours, the person called police, investigators said.

The little girl appeared to have lacerations on her forehead, Kinebrew said Monday.

The baby was treated for minor injuries and is now safe with family members, police said. Investigators later found the girl's mother Sunday afternoon and released her after questioning.

If the mother's intent was Safe Haven, she misapplied it due to where she left the child and the child's age, Kinebrew said.

Police have not yet determined whether anyone will be charged.
