Passenger Thrown From Vehicle That Speeds Off After Spotting Pennsylvania State Police

One man is in custody and his passenger in critical condition after police say the driver took off after seeing a cop car.

Pennsylvania State Police witnessed a driver crash after suddenly accelerating through a series of stop signs in Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon.

Troopers said they saw the driver suddenly accelerate around 12:30 p.m. after spotting their cruiser at E Allegheny Avenue and Tulip Street in the Port Richmond section of the city. The troopers looked into the rear view mirror to see the car blow through two stop signs.

State police made a quick U-turn and switched on the sirens as they attempted to pursue the car but didn’t see it. When the troopers turned a bend they saw the fleeing vehicle crashed into another vehicle – the passenger ejected.

Medics rushed the injured passenger to Temple University hospital with undisclosed injuries. Troopers took the driver into custody.

No word yet on why the car sped off.
