A Pottstown police officer was shot during a struggle with a man while responding to a domestic disturbance call on Friday night. NBC10’s Aaron Baskerville has the latest.

A police officer suffered a gunshot wound while responding to a domestic violence call in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, on Friday, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said.

Police were called to the 200 block of Chestnut Street just after 4 p.m. on Nov. 15 for reports of a domestic disturbance, officials said.

Once at the residence, officers found a man, identified as William Ciccoli Jr., and a woman arguing, officials said.

The responding officers were trying to diffuse the situation when Ciccoli tried to remove the firearm from an officer's holster, the District Attorney said.

Ciccoli and the officer struggled and the gun went off, according to the District Attorney's Office. The officer was struck in the right hip.

The officer was then taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

"They just moved in about two months ago. I guess a boyfriend and girlfriend, but they just moved in," one witness, Mike Falco, said.

Cell phone video obtained by NBC10 shows emergency crews carrying the Pottstown officer downstairs after being shot.

In the cell phone video, you can see at least one man being led away in handcuffs. It’s not clear from the video how this man is related to the incident.

Police said that Cioccoli was arrested and is expected to face charges. An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
