NJ Town Police Chief Makes $300K

A police chief in North Jersey stands to earn more than $300,000 this year.

New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro's new contract includes nearly $110,000 in one-time payouts for vacation and accumulated sick days.

The Record newspaper reports this year's payout does not include more than $48,000 in unpaid compensatory time that Papapietro earned over 13 years and asked to postpone.

The chief is not retiring and his contract calls for him to work 35 hours a week. Papapietro says it's impossible to do his job even in 40 hours a week.

Mayor Ann Subrizi says the council thought it was in the best interest of taxpayers to pre-pay some of the chief's comp time so they didn't get hit with it all at once.

New Milford is a town of about 16,300 people located in Bergen County.
