Philadelphia police officials have provided an update after an officer died from a medical emergency in South Philadelphia on Friday evening.

On Saturday afternoon, officials said that the officer who died was Lynneice Hill, a 44-year-old who was assigned to the city's 3rd police district.

She was a 24-year veteran of the force.

According to police, Hill was spotted before 9 p.m. on Friday by witnesses who found her unresponsive in a patrol vehicle.

At the time, officials said, Hill was on an overtime assignment on the 1800 block of Christopher Columbus Boulevard, the TJ Maxx and Homegoods parking lot.

Investigators said that witnesses on the scene called 9-1-1 and officers who responded to the scene attempted CPR.

Hill was then taken a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators did not provide Hill's cause of death.

“I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about her dedication and her commitment to the police department over the years,” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said on Friday evening.

On Saturday, Philadelphia police union president John McNesby shared his condolences on Hill's passing.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we mourn the sudden passing of dedicated police officer, Lynneice Hill. Our friend and colleague served this city for 24 years with humility, distinction and integrity. We pray for officer Hill’s family, friends and colleagues with the Philadelphia police department. The FOP will never forget her dedication and contributions to the police department and her community," McNesby said in a statement.
