Police Say Man Killed His Family With Bat

Police said a 44-year-old Warrington man killed his wife and son with a baseball bat on Friday night before taking his own life.  Authorities said he comitted suicide by laying in front of a train.

The Bucks County District Attorney identified the victims on Saturday morning: Irina Moyer, 39, and her son, 7-year-old Dillan Moyer.  The D.A. said Christopher Moyer, 44, is the suspect.

Authorities said the man called 911 at 9:40 p.m. and reported the crime.  According to police, he told the 911 operator in the call that he found his wife and son bludgeoned to death.  When the operator asked the caller if he did it, the man said yes.  The operator noted that the caller's tone during the phone call was polite, and had said "thank you."

Police units from Warrington, Warminster, and Warrick surrounded the man's home on the 100 block of Redstone Drive.  Uncertain whether the caller was still inside the house, police did not enter immediately.  When they did, they found the two deceased victims inside, and the suspected killer gone.

Police said the victims had been killed by repeated blows with a blunt object.  The mother was found in a second floor bathroom, and the son's body was inside his bedroom.  There were no signs of struggle, leading investigators to believe the killings may have started while the victims slept.

A bloody baseball bat was recovered inside the house.

At 1 a.m., police responded to a report of a fatality on railroad tracks in Hatboro, in Montgomery County.  The vehicle of the 911 caller was found nearby.  Police said it appeared the man laid his head on the railroad track and waited for the train to come.

A typed note was found inside the family home listing the names of relatives and their phone numbers.  Investigators said there were indications that the family had been in financial trouble.

The investigation continues.  Check back with NBC Philadelphia for more updates as the story develops.
