A 17-year-old young man was found dead in Northern Liberties early Saturday morning.
Dwayne Ballard was discovered at 12:15 a.m. on 7th Street and Green Street. He had been walking and was shot in the head from behind, according to police.
Witnesses say they heard seven gunshots shortly after midnight. More than 100 family members and friends gathered at the location were Ballard was killed for a vigil Saturday night. Dwayne's father described his son as a good kid who died senselessly.
"He told me he'd be home in a little bit, he'd be home soon," Dwyane Ballard said. "It's hard....just senseless, I can't explain."
Mourners created a memorial and placed the teen's shoes and favorite basketball. Family members say the junior played point guard at Delaware Valley High School.
Dwayne volunteered with the Helping Hand Rescue Mission located a block away from where his was killed, according to friends.
The investigation continues.
