A person was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a car along City Avenue -- near the St. Joseph's University campus -- Monday night.

A driver struck person along City Avenue -- on the Montgomery County side near Old Lancaster Avenue -- just before 8 p.m. Lower Merion Township police said.

The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The person in the striking car stopped a short distance later stayed on the scene, police said. The windshield to their SUV was shattered on the driver's side.

All northbound lanes along City Ave. were closed to traffic while police investigated, but reopened well before the Tuesday morning commute.

NBC10 has reached out to St. Joe's public safety and Lower Merion police in an attempt to get more information about the crash victim and what might have led to the crash.

People who frequent City Avenue said they often see drivers going too fast along the straight stretch of road dividing Philadelphia and Montgomery County.

"They go about 50, 60, sometimes 65," bus operator Melvin Green said. The speed limit near St. Joe's is just 35 mph.
