Boyfriend Faces Attempted Murder Charges After Girlfriend Shot in Head

The woman was taken to Cooper University Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head

A South Jersey resident is facing attempted murder charges in the shooting of his girlfriend during an argument.

Anthony Ortiz, 29, is accused of shooting his 24-year-old girlfriend inside a home along Gross Avenue in Pennsauken Township Tuesday afternoon, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said.

Police found the woman unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to Cooper University Hospital where she was on life support, authorities said.

Prosecutors charged Ortiz with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons counts. He was being held at the Camden County jail and it was unclear if he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
