Fire forced residents from a South Jersey high-rise and out into the rain overnight.
Flames broke out just after midnight in a non-residential area of the first floor of Cooper River Plaza along N Park Drive in Pennsauken, Camden County.
Smoke from the fire traveled throughout the 14-story building causing fire crews to evacuate about 350 residents. No resident suffered any injuries, however, one firefighter required hospitalization for exhaustion, said Pennsauken Fire Chief Joseph Palumbo.
Residents could be seen trying to find a dry spot as heavy rain fell during the evacuation.
Once the fire was out, crews ventilated each floor and checked carbon monoxide levels before systematically allowing people back into their apartments before sunrise Monday, said firefighters.
No word yet on what caused the blaze.
