The Einstein Healthcare Network has agreed to pay nearly $1 million to resolve allegations a cardiologist, who was part of the Einstein practice plan, submitted bills to Medicare for services that were not medically necessary or lacked sufficient documentation.
The Philadelphia health system voluntarily disclosed the alleged improper billing that resulted in Medicare overpayments after discovering the problem during an internal review and reporting it to the federal government. The bills were submitted between October 2010 and January 2012.
