Wife of retired police officer finds woman who went missing in Mount Laurel, NJ

Mount Laurel police said the wife of a retired police officer spotted a woman Tuesday who had been missing since Sunday.

The wife of a retired South Jersey police officer spotted a woman who went missing for nearly 48 hours in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.

On Sunday, April 6, around 7:30 a.m., Danyila Nykytyn walked away from her home on the 300 block of Val Drive. She was spotted on video traveling on Watson Drive near Nottingham Way about a half hour later. A resident then spotted the 66-year-old walking near a pond and into the woods in the area of Watson Drive just north of Nottingham Way around 8:30 a.m. that morning.

Police said Nykytyn only speaks Ukrainian and is shy. They also said she did not have her wallet, cellphone or access to a vehicle.

Then, around 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the wife of a retired Mount Laurel police officer spotted the missing woman walking near the Mount Laurel Animal Hospital, police said in a Facebook post.

Nykytyn was reunited with her family and taken to a hospital for observation, police said, while noting she didn't appear to be hurt.

No indication was given as to where the missing woman had been for the past few days.
