The shooting occurred Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Manatawny Manor Nursing Home in East Coventry Township, Pennsylvania. An 89-year-old patient was inside her room at the nursing home when a 90-year-old man, later identified as her husband, walked in, pulled out a gun and shot her, investigators said.

The man then shot himself in the head, according to investigators. He was taken to Reading Hospital where he died overnight and the incident was ruled a murder-suicide, the Chester County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.

District Attorney Christopher Barrena-Sarobe said that there was another patient inside the room where the shooting happened, but that person was not physically harmed during the incident.
